Meeting 21 Sept 2009

Notes

Notes on meeting held on Monday 21st September 2009. There were 7 members at the meeting, and several apologies due to holidays etc.

Our PCSO Charlie Rogers was unable to attend due to shift patterns. We hope with the arrangements for next year to be finalised soon, that she will be available for our next meeting, on Monday 16th November. Remember we meet the third Monday of every other month.

Fortunately there have not been a great number of problems in the village recently. At least 3 house signs have been removed, some permanently. It is important for people to report these problems, so the police know what is going on. There have also been reports of suspicious people lurking about, sometimes late at night. If you see something suspicious, inform the police. If you can note car registration numbers/ descriptions, and other relevant details this is helpful.

Please make sure you pay attention to home security. This may involve keeping your garage door closed when not in use, to deter opportunistic thieves returning later to steal your property. Always report thefts—patterns of crime are important in crime prevention.

Concerns were raised about difficulties with Ilminster Community Transport, which helps elderly people attend lunch clubs etc. Their vehicle needs expensive repairs, and the service is closing. Also there is confusion about hospital transport. It can be difficult for people without cars to get to hospital appointments. We will investigate these problems.

A new Police Post is to be opened in South Petherton, in the premises of a former estate agents. This will be more prominent than the current site, and also accommodate Citizens Advice services, and local tourist information. We welcome the increased accessibility to these services.

Ed Wakely is setting up a Farm Watch group, and Charlie Rogers a Horse Watch in the near future.
