Notes on meeting 15th November 2010

Seven members attended, and we were pleased to meet our new PCSO Rachel Napper. Rachel has an enlarged beat area which is centred on South Petherton and includes the surrounding villages of Seavington, Over Stratton, Lopen, as well as ourselves.

Our new beat manager is John Watson, who is currently based in Yeovil, but will be back based in Somerton when he has recovered from a recent injury. Both can be contacted by email: rachel.napper@avonandsomerset.police.uk ; and john.watson@avonandsomerset.police.uk

The best way to contact by phone is to call the non urgent line, and ask for the person you require by name. They should then be able to pick up a message the next time they are on duty, if not immediately available. The number to call is 0845 456 7000. The emergency number is still 999. Messages can also be left at the information post in South Petherton.

Please remember that the police need information about all aspects of crime and antisocial behaviour, to help them know what is going on in the area. You do not have to give your name, but of course you will not get any feedback in this case. It is also intended to have a monthly Beat Surgery. When I have more information, I will let you know.

Recent events in the area have included a car being broken into and a £1 coin on dashboard being taken.

A childs scooter was taken and later found abandoned and damaged.

The roof of the pavilion was damaged by youths climbing on it.

Attempted burglary in Lopen, with nothing stolen as criminal was disturbed. Security advice given includes not leaving ladders up against house as these can lead to breaking and entering.

Incidents of antisocial or rowdy behaviour need to be reported as they are occurring, and not next day. Police officers in cars can quickly attend if contacted. If making such a call, get a reference number, and you should get a follow up call to report how the incident was dealt with, but you do not have to give your name.

A new officer has been appointed to liaise with pub landlords on all aspect of their work. Contact Rachel if you have problems.

We have received warnings of scams that leave a card saying a parcel is waiting for you, and to ring a premium rate number. This will give you a hefty phone bill, and no parcel. Take care and be cautious. This is particularly important in the run up to Christmas.

Next meeting Monday 17th January 2011
