Shepton Pre-School News

August 2010 Update

Holiday time is here which means a six week break for the Pre-School and Toddlers and before we know it, it will be 1st September and new term will begin again. We have had a very exciting year which included celebrating our excellent OFSTED report.

Much needed fund raising has continued to keep us up and running with the most recent events making a profit of £450 for the summer Sunday and £160 from the Bags2School. Many thanks to all involved in these events.

We continued to have a very busy July with the children enjoying our book themes. Postman Pat, Peter Rabbit and Fireman Sam all favourites. This concluded with a visit to Martock firestation where great fun was had by all as usual. Thanks to the part time firemen who gave up their free time to show us around. Term finished on 21st July with our leavers party with an Indian theme, all the staff and children dressed up for the occasion and fun was had by all. This is always a very happy occasion for the children, but the parents and staff seem to get a bit emotional, when the children leave and move on to School.

We are delighted to say they are all ready for their next step in their education and wish them all well. We hope that you all enjoy the summer and if you know anyone who is looking for a toddler group, -3s group or pre-school please do not hesitate to put them in touch.

July 2010 Update

The last half term of the year is well under way. The Pirate Day was a great success, all staff and children dressed up in pirate costumes and all got involved in the activities on the Pirate Bus. The children were able to make Pirate Treasure Chests, mini pirates, necklaces and Pirate Hats. We all took part in other adventures back in the village hall including walking the plank, which was definitely a favourite.

Our recent theme has been the story of the Gruffalo and all the creatures the mouse meets on his adventures in the woods. The children have enjoyed making snakes and mice and having pretend adventures in the woods. Summer Sports Day was great fun, the children ran their races really well and enjoyed obstacle races and putting balls into pots.

There was lots of fun and games after the sports on a beautiful June afternoon and profits from the day will go to purchasing new toys and equipment for the pre-school. Thanks to all who helped in anyway to make the day such a success. Over £450 was raised during this event. Well done one and all!

Good luck to all the children leaving us to go to school in September and we will see the others back ready to go again in September too. Places available for September in the -3's group and the Pre-school. Please contact us on the above number for further details.

June 2010 Update

The children and staff really enjoyed the Dance workshops that we took part in recently, pretending to grow like seeds, move like the waves, rolling over rafts and generally exploring using movement, music and imagination.

Our next adverture will be our Pirate Day which will include a visit from the Playbus decked out as a Pirate ship. All staff and children will be dressing up for the day of fun and adventure.

Our themes this half term have been 'Our favourite Books' which so far have included The Owl Babies and The Tiger that came to tea. Our activities have included Owl puppets and pictures practising our 'cutting out' skills and cooking skills came into play with pizzas for the tiger's tea! Following on from these was Thomas the Tank Engine and friends which proved popular and helped the younger children to recognise their colours and numbers painted on the individual engines.

Summer Sports Day Sunday 13th June. All Welcome. Lots of exciting stalls and fun and games. Watch out for posters. Places available from September for children from the age of 2. Please do not hesitate to contact us on the above number for any further details.

Visit from The Little Big Bang - April 2010

The children and also the staff at Shepton Beauchamp Pre-school have had great fun when they joined Hannah Lefeuvre when she came to visit as part of The Little Big Bang Project Dance and Movement Outreach Work in pre-schools. The children used their imagination and lots of body movements as they grew like seeds. (even growing through grass- feet coming through!)

May 2010 Update

Our Spring term finished with our Easter theme and a visit to the church. The children made cards and pictures to decorate the church and many took part in our Easter Creations competition. There was a beautiful array of hats, cards, spring flowers, Easter displays and even a Easter T-Shirt! Easter eggs were presented by Fr. Geoff, to all those who took part.

The new term started off with two dance workshops by the 'Little Big Bang' project, and a visit to the Smokery at Hambridge which was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Jesse and his staff for putting up with us! During May the older children will be paying regular visits to their schools in preparation for September which is always very exciting for them, making new friends and getting used to the new surroundings and the members of staff. Thank you to those who contributed to our Bags2School collection, we will let you know how we got on.

Our Summer Sunday Sports and Fete will take place on 13th June so lots of practicing will be on the agenda in the next few weeks. A big welcome to our new children who have just started our -3s group and hope those who have moved up to Pre-School are having fun in the longer sessions. Please do not hesitate to contact us on the above number for any further details.
